One news clip that is important in my opinion is how much hospital bills are. The lady in the clip was in the hospital for three nights and had to pay $40,000. Hospitals are there to help people but after they do they leave people in a bunch of debt anyways so whats the point. My sister got in a car accident last year and she had to get air lifted to the hospital and it was $10,000. She was like 25 miles from the hospital so that is ridiculous that it costed that much. Even though they help people hospitals hurt just as many people too because of the costs. One that is meaningless is celebrity journalism. It is always one meaningless story after another. They always have the same story for every reporter. So in my opinion this is meaningless.

Millennials

There has not really been any big significant even that brings the Millennials together. But one thing I can think of would be social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are important part of nearly every teenagers lives. I know personally I use or check every single one of those every day. These social media apps/websites bring us together, but also can bring us apart. By using those there also is an increase of of bullying. On twitter and facebook I see so much fighting and drama it is ridiculous. Although these sights bring the Millennials together it also tears them apart.

Reality Television

I can see what he means when he says people are starting to act like archetypes they see on tv. Whenever a popular reality tv show is on you can always tell. Everyone is constantly talking quoting it, and acting the way they act. Also for halloween everyone always dresses up like one of the people from the show. So when Klosterman says people act like the characters on tv I would say it is a pretty strong statement.

Accidental Racist

I think the song was a good idea but they did not think it through very well. Some of the lyrics were kind of controversial and I think that is why some people got offended. Like they said very stereotypical things. Also some people took it as they wanted to forget that slavery even happened, and that caused problems. Overall I think they had the right idea but could have done a better job of doing it.

Bootleg Culture

One form of intertextuality that you see a lot nowadays is plagiarism. Students alone, at least in high school, do this all the time. They will have a paper or something due and the will just copy and past from the internet and call it their own. In high school you usually just get a slap on the wrist and get told not to do it again, and maybe get an F on it, but the punishment is not too severe and that is why it is seen more often in high school than in college.

What I have learned

I have learned many things about popular culture since the beginning of this class. One major thing I have learned it that literally everything has to do with popular culture. You turn on the tv and what do you see, commercials. These are examples of popular culture. Also new types of music are becoming more popular, like mash ups. Everywhere you look you see something to do with popular culture.

Football High

In the video there were some pretty big issues and bad stories brought up. The won that stuck out the most was about Will James and Tyler Davenport. To think that one of them died from heat stroke is a scary thought. I played football in high school and remember having two a days and how hot it was and how we hardly had any water breaks. This could have easily happened to anyone on our team. Serious precautions need to start to be taken or else more and more kids are going to get hurt.

This is Emo

In relationships we are always set up for failure. Because of tv shows, movies, and songs men and women alike have unrealistic views on what relationships are going to be like. Movies make it seem like relationships are perfect and do not take any work and once you fall in love everything after that is easy. When in reality it is nothing like that. It takes a lot of work to make relationships work and most people do not realize that because of what they see in movies. And this is why a lot of relationships fail because when things get tough people think its not meant to be because in their mind their perfect relationship is not like that

Sexiness

Sex and sexiness is very important in our culture today. Sex is everywhere. It is in movies, books, magazines, commercials, and countless others. This may or may not be a bad thing. Some may think this is leading to more teenagers having sex, and could possibly lead to more teen pregnancies. It could also be leading to more STD's. But on the other hand people may see this as a good thing. This makes people more open about sex and sex brings in a lot of money for many people. Overall sex is everywhere and and that is not going to change anytime soon so whether or not you like it you might as well get used to it.

Happiness and popular culture

There are some ways happiness and popular culture are tied in together. Popular culture can be certain trends and styles that are happening in the world today. The way happiness ties in to this is there may be certain things that are cool or the latest fad that you think you really want. For example like a new pair of shoes or a new car. You think that having this new thing will make you the happiest person in the world, and you would give anything to get it. When the day comes that you finally get it, you love it for about a week and then you get tired of it. The mind does not really know what it wants. And plus with the way popular culture is, something that may be in right now may not be cool in two weeks.
